Creative dishes and wines in Poble Sec

If we talk about the blai street more than one will associate it with midday tapas and pintxos routes. This is where Denassus arrived a few months ago, a project by two winemaking friends with a long history in the hospitality industry and very clear ideas: to bring you varied dishes full of creativity and that you can pair with a good glass of wine. A pleasant place, with options not seen in other places and with very good value for money. In addition, due to its location, it can be a safe bet before enjoying the cultural plans that the Parallel offers.

Denassus opened just a few months ago at the initiative of Alejo and Nico. Two friends who, despite their youth, have extensive experience in the hospitality industry. In fact, their friendship was born while pursuing the sommelier degree and continued close to the kitchen, since the two were part of the well-known Bar del Plà for a few years.

They changed their scene to develop a personal project cooked over low heat. An example of this is that they tell us that they searched for months for the place that fit their ideas. They found him in the casual Blai street in Poble Sec.

Every lover of the bar, the portions and the good atmosphere knows this street well. However, we believe that Denassus shines compared to other establishments in the area both for its menu and for the establishment itself.

One of our favorite dishes: duck bomb

One of our favorite dishes: duck bomb

At Denassus they wanted to do things very well, focusing on the small details. That modus operandi He has continued both with the transformation of the premises and with the menu. The place was previously a classic and elegant style winery. They did not want to lose that, and for the entrance of their new owners they have maintained elements such as the marble tables, their shelves as a wine cellar or their large bar. Even so, they have transformed the place with small but transcendental details, managing to rejuvenate it and add a touch of sophistication. Among the changes we look at its wall, painted with an original effect between worn and metallic, also reproduced in its menu. Super detailers!

With winemakers behind them wine I had to be very present on the premises. They have a letter with a wide variety of references of the peninsula, as well as a not short list of French wine. If I were you, I would take advantage and ask them for advice, it can't be done in all tapas bars...

Now, Denassus is not just a wine bar with "something to nibble on." They tell us that food is an essential element. For this they have chosen the sharing dish formula: creative tapas that surprised us both with their presentation and their flavor.

Behind them is their chef Nico, who has worked in no more and no less than 30 countries. His letter is short but varied. There is no shortage of classics patatas bravas, who show this interest, again, in doing things well: they are accompanied by a homemade tomato sauce and parsley aioli. We loved dishes like duck bomb with barbecue sauce and Iberian needle brioche. You just want to describe them, right?

Although beforehand Their vegetable-based dishes do not attract your attention as much as their steak, let them surprise you like us with options such as grilled leeks with citrus and agave vinaigrette or artichokes with kale chips.

Although they opened only a few months ago, they vary the menu or offer dishes outside of it to adapt it to seasonal products. As an example, we tried an autumnal scrambled mushrooms with egg yolk. On the other hand, along with more avant-garde dishes, reinvented traditional tapas also have space on this menu. We are not used to – and it is appreciated – seeing dishes like this in this type of establishment. Iberian pork cheek, this time with chiri pureeshe knowsa (highly recommended) or calluses. We did not try the latter on this occasion, but they will be essential on a future visit.

We sign it up for a weekend vermouth or for a relaxed dinner (with friends or partner) as the beginning of the “weekend”. Furthermore, taking into account its location next to rooms (Barts, Apolo...) or theaters (Victoria, Condal, Apolo) Denassus's creative tapas before or after the show can complete the night and turn it into a great plan.

I'm sure you'll see us there again!

The Land of Vermouth The other day we had the pleasure of being invited to a fantastic event that took place in Las Vermudas.
